Gift
From Sword of Truth Wiki
The gift was the power of magic. One who possessed the gift was able to wield magic. These people were commonly referred to as the gifted. People like: wizards, sorceresss and witch women were all gifted, however people who possessed a set type of magic or ability like Confessors or the Andolians were not. They were known as creatures of magic.
The gift was different from one person to the next. In some people it manifested itself more in certain areas. For example a prophet had the ability to glimpse the future, while other wizards were skilled at crafting objects.
The level of power possessed from one gifted person to the next could vary greatly. One sorceress could best another in combat, simply by overpowering her opponent with her superior level of strength. The more powerful the gifted person, the more complex the webs they could cast.
Those who could manipulate their gift are called the gifted. For those who are unable to manipulate even the smallest use of the gift still have the gift. They are still affected by magic since they have infinitesimal spark of it. Only the pristinely ungifted, those without the tiniest spark of the gift, are unharmed by Additive magic. They can, however, be harmed by Subtractive magic since these people are still alive and are connected with death; the consequence of the use of the Subtractive side.
