Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander, commonly known as Zedd, was a wizard of the First Order, who was named First Wizard during the D'Haran War. Earning the sobriquet, "the wind of death", for his service throughout the war, Zedd led the Midlands to victory over the forces of Panis Rahl, and erected the boundaries that separated the three lands of the New World, at the wars conclusion.

Later, infuriated by the actions of the corrupt Central Council of the Midlands and his own students, Zedd exiled himself to Westland. However, after decades of solitude, Zedd was forced to once more come to the aid of the Midlands, at the behest of Mother Confessor Kahlan Amnell, and named his secret grandson, Richard Rahl, as the new Seeker of Truth. Through Zedd's actions, Darken Rahl was defeated, though an even more insidious threat would rise in the form of the Imperial Order.

Now allied with his grandson's D'Haran Empire, Zedd found himself often acting as head of the armies gifted forces, in place of Richard, who proved ignorant in the application of the gift. With Zedd's aid, Richard proved able to repel the Order, and banish those who believed in its corrupt ideals to a world bereft of magic.

Cara was a talented Mord-Sith and the close friend and protector of Richard Rahl and Kahlan Amnell. Following the defeat of Darken Rahl, Cara pledged herself to Richard, not as a personal torturer, but as a willing protector. Through her years of service to the Lord Rahl and Mother Confessor she developed a strong friendship, and sense of loyalty, to both.

Indeed, Cara proved herself an exceptional ally to the cause of the D'Haran Empire, serving throughout the Imperial Order War; saving the lives of Kahlan and Richard many a time through out. In addition, Cara proved loyal throughout the events surrounding the Chainfire spell, during which she came close to death at the hands of the Blood Beast.

Following the end of the war, Cara remained loyal to Richard and Kahlan, and eventually wed General Benjamin Meiffert.
