The spirit knife was a bone knife bonded to the spirit of one of the Mud People. The one who used the spirit knife to defend oneself and take the life of another became bonded to the knife and is the only one who can touch it according to the Mud People. Kahlan Amnell, the Mother Confessor, used Chandalen's grandfather's spirit knife to defend herself against Prindin in Stone of Tears.
