He is amongst the village elders who refuse to grant a Gathering for Richard Rahl during Wizard's First Rule. Richard returns the lives and honor to the elders after Siddin was almost killed by spirits summoned by the Night Stone. Surin then confirms Richard and Kahlan as Mud People and takes parts in the Gathering that Richard requests.
